Emmerdale's Natalie: 'I wanted to do the stunts'

Emmerdale's Natalie J Robb says she didn't mind getting bruised for her upcoming crash scenes, because she wanted to do most of the stunts herself.

The 37-year-old actress ended up with a bruised ribcage while filming the dramatic episode, which sees her alter-ego Moira and husband John Barton (James Thornton) involved in a horrific road accident.

"I got some bruises - I was throwing myself about. You want to make it look realistic, so I didn't mind all that," she told ITV1's Lorraine.

"We did have two stunt doubles for both of us, but in the end, we didn't really use them - because you have to make it look as real as possible. It wasn't that bad, really," she added.

The dramatic crash sees John fighting for his life. In real life, James is leaving Emmerdale.

Natalie revealed that the filming took place over three nights.

"We did three night shoots. There were actually five Land Rovers that we used, and all five were in different areas - so we just kept moving to each location, to do each different set-up. It was really well thought out," she said.

"Michael Lacey, the director, really thought about it and it was all story-boarded. We only had three nights to do it in, and a lot to cover."

The scenes will screen in an hour-long episode tonight (Thursday) at 7pm on ITV1.
