Nikki to bow out as Corrie's Amber - for now

Coronation Street's Nikki Patel is waving farewell to Weatherfield - for now.

The 21-year-old actress has already filmed her final scenes as Amber Kalirai, who will leave the famous cobbles next month after a series of rows with stepmum Sunita Alahan (Shobna Gulati), reports The People.

"Nikki's part in the love triangle was a huge success, but the producers feel that the character has run her course. Nikki is a professional and she understands, although of course she is disappointed," a source said.

Amber - who made her screen debut in November 2005 and left in 2009, before returning in July 2011 - was involved in the lesbian love triangle with Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent) and Sian Powers (Sacha Parkinson). Sacha left Coronation Street in December.

A Coronation Street spokesperson confirmed the news, but revealed that the door is left open for Nikki to reprise the role in the future.

"Nikki will be leaving us at the end of her contract, but viewers may see Amber again," they said.
