Casualty star James Redmond is waving goodbye to his much loved character, Abs.
The actor has been playing loveable mental health nurse John 'Abs' Denham in the BBC's long-running hospital drama since 2003 - but he told GMTV on Tuesday that it is time to move on.
James' character has been at the centre of some explosive storylines - not least Abs' shotgun wedding to Ellen, who blackmailed him into tying the knot. But Abs ditched Ellen for a romance with her half-sister Nina (Rebekah Gibbs).
In recent months, Abs has been struggling to help his friend Stacey, who is an alcoholic.
Fans will happy to hear that Abs isn't being killed off and will stay on screen until episode seven of the coming series.
James' other roles have included Fin in Hollyoaks and a presenter for SM:TV.
